Dr. Mia has been running her own clinic ever since her doctor's appointment last week. She's getting pretty good at administering medication. Elmo, according to the little physician, needs quite a lot of monitoring and medicating.

As her gramps noted, though, Elmo does look a little bit frightened. Poor guy.

Happy Days

Lots of very happy days lately.

Here I am sporting the Dutch slippers that Papa and Gogo gave me. I normally won't wear them, but since I heard there was a new Dutch baby in the neighborhood - congratulations Maike and family! - I was happy to get festive with these comfy clogs.

To the left you'll see what I hope will be my first passport photo. I'm getting tired of posing in front of our only white wall for this passport thing!

Here's a nice shot of me looking rather smug and feeling very pleased with myself after I pretended to be utterly exhausted at the Science Museum so that my mom would get me the heck out of a dark museum on a sunny day. What was she thinking?

Though I'm sure nobody who saw me rubbing my eyes at the museum will believe it, I perked up as soon as we walked out the door. We took a nice around city park and said hi to the ducks. I almost got away with a nap free day, but eventually I did give in.

In other news, I recently became very fond of Corn. He came with Mr. Potato Head ...

I told him I loved him on Friday and then became a little concerned when his arm fell off. Uh oh.

We also got word of Jimmy & Jenny's BIG DAY - I'm talking about it here.

There is so so so much more to say, but these uploads take way too long and a girl's got to get her beauty sleep.

A lot has happened since my last entry. I have been very busy learning new skills. You may need to check out some translation sites in order to follow along with this entry. The Spanish section will be coming at a later date - we're having technical difficulties with a few of my most stellar performances.

Being so famous, I try to keep a very low profile and never leave the side of my secret service (mom, dad, papa, gogo, omi, opa, xochilt, sofia, danny, janel... hopefully johnny will join the ranks soon) when in public. I save most of my dramatics for only my closest friends and family. Below are a few rare glimpses into the secret life of Mia.

Finally Some Footware Fashion Sense

After all my earlier not-so-subtle hints about appropriate footware were seemingly ignored, I was beginning to worry that the Boulder Cotton Tops' cotton was not just on the outside of the aging hippie crania. But, just about the time you're going to give up, they surprise you. And what a surprise -- straight from Valencia.

In spite of being somewhat understated in style and subdued in color, they really are elegant. I'm hoping Santa comes through with some castanets.

Mom's all worried that I'll twist an ankle. Really now! Does she think I was born last year? I'll see if I can post a video to show how glamorous they are in full heel-clackin' Flamenco operation.

Just another Manic Monday

Monday was one of those marathon days: cleaning for our 65th house showing, shopping, very quick power nap, my first tea party, new potty book with noise-making flush button, acting lessons, groceries, grilling out, playing ball, driving my car, a little "signing time" action, visit with friends. Entirely too much to list here.

Only the most die hard Mia fans will make it through,
but it's well worth your time.

This is me with my new tea set after one of my famously short naps.
Pretty fancy, eh? And aren't you impressed with my tea time manners?

I also practiced my acting skills with a game of "hide the doggy in the kitty bag" like only I can play it. This is a long video, but if you watch the whole thing, I think you'll know who's about to get her big Hollywood break...

I learned plenty of new words over the weekend including but not limited to...

Here's me with the wonderful new potty book that I mentioned earlier (makes authentic flushing sounds!). I like this book. When I read it I get an odd sensation that I'm studying up for some sort of big test but I'm not sure what it is yet.

I forgot to bring my camera to LT's house.
Too bad - Count Diapula was surfing on his toy truck - so cool.

To top of a very active day, daddy helped me fly like an airplane and then tickled me like crazy. In the footage below, you'll see me request "more more" after about the 30th time around. Great workout for the daddy arms.

As you can see - a very full Monday.

Some of you may assume this kind of day would lead to many hours of uninterrupted sleep, but then you would be vastly underestimating my stamina and resiliency!

At Sofi's killer taco party tonight, everyone was commenting on the size of my feet.
I honestly didn't know that size 5 toddler was big for a 16 month old.

With all that attention on my foot size,
it was soon discovered that I inherited my mom's stinky feet.

Barack came to visit me again today!

Gogo, early bird that she is, held a place for us in line and had already made lots of "old white ladies for obama" by the time we arrived. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a button for her with that slogan, but we did try.

The papparazzi always manage to find me. I decided that I would grant this one nice journalist an interview since it was such an historic occasion.

Unlike Gogo, our next president is not always early.

By the time Barry finally spoke. I had passed out.

I was a little confused upon waking....

... but slowly realized that people were applauding for me.

My first grape stomping experience! Totally weird. My mom and grandparents wanted me to stand in a cold mushy pile of merlot grapes and squish them. Normally, I'm all about mashing things and making messes, but I was not sure what to make of these old people asking me to do it so I tried to keep my feet as sparkling clean as possible and mostly played with the suds bucket instead of the grapes.

No worries, I'm sure that the mere proximity of my feet hovering above the grapes will make this year's merlot exquisite.

We hope this will convince Coaches Medina that Mia is, in fact, deserving of a spot on the soccer team. She's been shy about sharing her talents with the world until now, but the Olympics must have inspired her to go public.

My Visit to Manhattan

Not only did I get to meet the bride, cousin Krissy, but I got to meet all sorts of other Kurtzes like Great Grandpa Lou and Great Grandma Gloria. I went to a wedding - love weddings - especially weddings where I can steal away to my hotel room for a quick nap and come back to find everyone still dancing.

I had quite a few firsts on this trip. First carousel ride. First time meeting mama's friend Andrea and her really nice man named Ben. They took some great shots of me - it's hard not to, I know, but Andrea has an artist's eye and she captured all of my many moods perfectly. She also introduced me to Korean food - sooo gooood!

I happened upon my first Pride Parade - very exciting stuff. Lots of colors and dancing and happy people.

The most memorable part for mama and dada though, was how quietly and demurely I sat and ate my spaghetti late at night at one of Midtown's best kept secret restaurants, Joe G's. The staff were just gaga over me - and who could blame them, I was a perfect angel. Then I fell asleep sweetly on the stroller ride back to the Dream Hotel. It's fun to fake out the parents like that every so often... While I did behave myself quite well, the remaining evenings in New York were more eventful for me and the parents and New Yorkers weren't quite sure what to make of our nightly bedtime walk on a Friday night on Broadway... THE Broadway. They weren't quite sure what to make of a man singing a lullaby to a sleepy baby on what's probably the loudest street in the universe. That's pretty cool - to be able to shock New Yorkers. I think I have a bright future ahead.

My old friend, Joss (those in the inner circle call her J-Faz) had a party last month. She's one now and her mom gets to go to Africa all the time for work. Joss's mom brought back this lion for the birthday party - cool, huh?

Anyway, we all got to pose as lions - something I've wanted to do ever since I can remember - maybe even since March!

I gave it my best shot, but totally forgot to roar in the first picture.

Sofi did a bang-up job if you ask me. I hate to admit it, but I think she's got me beat in the roar department. For now, anyway. I did do an ok on my second attempt, but I think the gold medal goes to Sofi... this time. I'm still working on it.

Either way, check out the boys - they're not scary at ALL! In fact, they're just adorable. C'mon fellas!

Another day with Omi and Opa who had their surprises with me today:

While eating oatmeal, with each spoonful, I would clamp down on the spoon with my strong teeth and not let go for some time. That went for all the food I had today, except eating mashed potatoes - I fed them to myself!Finger foods work differently.

Kasperle helps me to learn German.

He asks: "Wo ist der Ball?" and I point to it.

Playing with the colorful rings: So far I had always managed to get them off the peg, today I put some back on. Applause from the oldies.

Opa and I played soccer today with a large, orange ball; I was chasing it through the house.

I certainly have displayed my share of Irish and German traits over my past 10 months on the planet. I've excelled at my German lessons every Wednesday at Omi & Opa's, and I have a brilliant Irish sense of mischief and a twinkle in my eyes much like my Irish Gogo. Boulder Cotton Tops Losing It Again (Still?)

Since the old (and I do mean old) Boulder fossils were nice enough to take me to a well-earned vacation to Maui, I've tried not to be too critical. But the latest carrying on is just too much. Recently, I got tired of waiting for them to jump at my every whim, so I started scooting around on my tummy. Of course, they've gone bonkers again -- about of all things -- crawling.

Personally I find it degrading. Can you imagine my svelte Armani model colleagues crawling down the runway at the Paris fashion shows.....REALLY NOW!!

Truth be told, I'm far more interested in walking (actually strutting might be better). But how can these people expect a 10-month old to be steady on her feet without a nice set of spiked heels? Honestly, it's hard to imagine what (that?) they are thinking.

On the other hand, it is Boulder so I end up barefoot or in sox or maybe some leather moccasins at best. Where are the stylish Fendi pumps for goodness sake? As soon as I get a chance, I'll post some pictures of what I have to put up with and what I'd really like.

Mama says that the brim of my old sun hat wasn't wide enough to cover my cheeks, so we picked out a new one for spring.

Since the "Mamarazzi" already published photos of my hot date with Z (and LT), it's probably old news to you. Just in case, you can read about it on Z's blog or LT's. I thought you'd be glad to learn that I've moved on from my earlier heartbreak, but I do still think about sweet Dylan every once in a while and I heard a rumor that all three of them might be at the Mondo Vino play date this Friday. So of course, the big question is... what should I wear?

January 28, 2008 - Longmont Times Journal:

Hallo, hallo, Mia here having fun with water - so it's not Hawaii and the beach, but the fire place I'm sitting in front of is as warm as the sunshine.

All of Monday was warm and we had two stroller walks; one in the AM, one in the PM. Since I don't take too well to laying down, (that reminds me of going to sleep and I fight it with tooth and nail,) Omi places me into the stroller sitting up. Once we keep walking it doesn't take long for me to fall asleep and then she lowers the back of the stroller.

Lots of talking going on again, I just can't help it and Omi keeps up with me - you should hear the two of us.

Opa gets all my food ready: mama's milk, cereal with banana, sweet potatoes, smashed pear. I drink little sips of water now and then all through the day. I like lunch time because I get to sit with the grown-ups. I eat first and then watch the two oldies munching away while I play with the paper napkins. So much fun to tear them into tiny pieces and then let them fall like snowflakes onto the floor - no, I don't clean up, what an idea.

Wednesday will be another day at the Longmont house. There is a new picture book I like and I am paying attention to all the German words. Luckily, Omi understands that a baby's attention span is very short. On to the next interesting thing, that's my motto; but it doesn't always have to be a new toy. Playing with fingers, hands and toes makes for great fun. Diaper changes are fun too, I get to exercise my legs so much and try to put pants back on me - I dare you.

January 9, 2008 - Longmont Times Journal:

A new year, a happy one to all who read this, and a new toy. How does it work? I need a little help here! Ach so, that's how that goes. Can you see me? Easy to get the rings off - on is another story, but I managed to put back the orange one and Opa and Omi went wild.

Another biggie for the day: I held my sippi cup by myself and even took a drink, but just one sip because otherwise I would have had water all over me. Drinking water is good for you.

The walk in the snow was fun for Omi, I slept through it. When we first started out there was no snow, then the snow flakes kept falling, we kept going. The stroller kept me from getting wet; the blankets felt soft and warm.

I am ready for my next adventure - guess where I am going? To Hawaii, with mama and baba, gogo and grampa, uncle Johnny, uncle Danny and aunt Janel. Great fun will be had!!!

December 19, 2007: Longmont Times Journal:

Another Wednesday and that means time at Omi and Opa's house. It's always a long ride from Denver to Longmont, but I usually sleep through it.

Once we are in the house, I have to inspect all the familiar places and check out the new stuff like the Christmas tree (Tannenbaum) and all decorations. Lots of presents under the tree, wonder what's in them.

For lunch I sat at the table with the grownups and had broccoli and fennel, washed it down with some water. My long afternoon nap was in the stroller, Omi walking for 45 minutes while I was snoozing. Later I had a banana snack and later yet some milk again. Total of 5 1/2 ounces of milk for today and quite a few diaper changes due to the yummy solid foods. Good thing, potty training is a long time off.

December 18, 2007: Boulder Free Press:

Don't tell them, but the Boulder fossils had me worried when they disappeared for over a week. It turns out they went to a conference in San Francisco -- without even asking! Probably good that they didn't ask because I really don't think I approve of that sort of thing -- unsupervised at their age. Anyway they are back and I had them jumping through hoops again today -- pulled out all the stops from the jumperoo to piano lessons, sitting up to play with the poker chips, reading books, eating pureed squash, mama's milk, a long walk over the snowy streets, new mp3 player with Gregorian chants and Ladysmith Black Mombasa for my naps. scrunching up Christmas gift wrapping paper and bows, a nice bath sitting up in the kitchen sink. Granny Franny Gogo and Papa Ben should sleep well tonight. In short, we all had fun and there were no cardiac incidents.

The really exciting news is that Zia Lidia called this weekend all the way from Rome to comment on how much she and the cugini Romani love the blog. The Italians are especially enthusiastic with my first word being in Italian -- "mama" of course. Sometimes it seems that I can just smile and make the whole world happy.

December 3-4, 2007: Boulder Free Press:

I decided to be a lot more talkative than in past visits to the Peoples' Republic. The "cotton tops" seem to like this and mom says it's good to humor them. They keep trying to get me to say something other than Mama, so I squawk to Bailey now and then I tried out "nya-nya-nya" on them. It took them a while to figure out it was just the "Anna" version of "Mama." I'm going to continue to hold out on saying "Dada, Omi, Opa, Gogo, and Papa" for a while. It's fun to watch them beg. I must have been holding forth pretty well; dad even remarked that the house got noticeably quieter when I was busy eating.

To ease their frustration, I posed for a few good photos.

Granny Franny GoGo is just a little under the weather today with a slight cold. A likely story. But I decided to take it easy on her --- just in case. I also kept my distance from her --- just in case. On the other hand, it was really entertaining to watch the "Old Gray Ghost" try to keep up for most of the day by himself. I had saved up a few surprises -- just for him -- for a day or so. We got in a couple nice walks today, but it was getting chilly on the afternoon "passagiatta." It's going to be interesting to see what they come up with when it's just too cold and snowy for walks. I'll bet they're hoping I'll let up on them when the weather's bad. Fat (cheeked) chance!!

We all called Great Gramma Edith to sing Happy Birthday to her. She's 89 today. And that's 89 years, not days. Hard to imagine. That's what she says too.

West Highlands Weekly

Despite Uncle Danny's best efforts, I am a natural born tree-hugger and I have already chosen my favorite tree species. I've loved to watch and listen to aspens ever since my eyes opened up this spring. A true outdoorswoman! My parents are worried about what will happen now that the leaves are nearly gone and the temperatures are finally dropping, but as long as they're willing to brave the sub-zero temps, I'll be happy outside. Here is a picture of me soaking up the last of the leaves and protecting my eyes from the Colorado sunshine.

Managed to sing, play, talk, grouse, snack, squirm, and grumble enough to keep mom and dad awake most of the night.

5:30 AM:

Played briefly in the "jumperoo" that Papa Ben bought when he thought Granny Franny Gogo was going to leave him alone to baby sit for a couple days last week. Ya gotta placate the ol' man early in the morning.

10:15 AM:

Sleeping peacefully and soundly.

All night partying is not an easy job. Besides I have to save up enough energy keep my Boulder grandparents alert and awake the rest of today.

5:30 PM

I created quite a stir just by saying "MaMa" when mom got back from work and picked me up. All three of the oldsters went bonkers. These people are easily impressed!! So I tried it a couple times later: "MaMa" and sure enough they all started squealing and clapping and dancing. It looks like I'd better try out the new words on them gradually -- I'm not sure the two gray-haired ones can take that much excitement -- especially after I've had them jumping through hoops from 5 AM.

Since I never know when the Paparazzi will about, I alway try to look my best. You'll never see me on What Not To Wear! So I thought, what a better way to remember 2007 than to take a look back at some of my best fashion statements...

Notice how my cheeks match my hat. It is important to pay attention to color details with Winter-wear. Also notice that my Mama and Baba drink a lot of wine. Perhaps this is their way to get their cheeks pink like mine

When your outfit is very cute it is important to show the right attitude, so people know you're also fierce like a lion.

If you're like me and your mode of travel is a giant ladybug, you'll want good shoes. Doesn't my mama have pretty hair? I hoping mine grows out soon so I can flip it around properly during photo shoots.

When dressed in bright polka-dots I always try to hang out with people in drab colors. I also like to make them carry me. Oh, and if anyone knows of a place to get good baby sunglasses, hook me up. I may have brownish eyes, but the bright sun reflecting off the snow is seriously going to give me wrinkles already.

PETA called and asked me to one of their anti-fur billboards. I believe this one appeared in Times Square.

My accomplishments of the day:

Holding the bottle by myself for a few seconds - sounding /ba/ (the first half of baba), Omi says we'll have to work on the other half.

Opa, the great photographer, caught this shot.

Sitting in the blue chair is fun as long as I get all the toys back onto the table after I throw them down and all around. If the toys fall close to the chair, I try grabbing them by myself.

Most of the time I'm listening to Omi; she talks in a strange language, and I haven't figured that one out yet. Then I give her some of my sounds and she can't make out what I said - we're even.
